Yoruba Heritage and Language School, Saskatoon
The Yoruba Language School came into existence through the unrelenting efforts of our front liners and settlers of the race in Saskatoon- Dr. Dele Akinbolue; Dr Akin Peluola, Dr Adelugba and Mr Bayo Bakare and was incorporated in 2004 under the Provincial acts and supervisory of SOHL. By October 8th, 2019, the school’s name was changed to include the word “Heritage” now fully called “YORUBA HERITAGE AND LANGUAGE SCHOOL, INC. This was done to accommodate the needs of the fast-growing population of the Yoruba people in Saskatoon. With this new structure, our children will not only be learning how to speak the beautiful language but also learning every aspect of the Yoruba culture, such as greetings, traditional dressings, cooking, Asa, Owe and so forth. Also, our adults will have the opportunity to continue learning about our culture and transmit same unto the younger generation, what a great opportunity!
In 2018 the Board of Governors) was constituted to oversee the running of the school under the leadership of Dr. Akindele Peluola. Other members of the Board include Mr. Ola Amusa (Board Secretary), Pastor Kayode, Oluwasile, Pastor Yemi Odewale, Mrs Aarinade Olaniyi, Alhaja Omolara Adekunle and Dr. Olalekan Oyefuga. On assumption of office, we set the ball rolling in the revival of the then fast moribund school and was glad within such a short time frame, we were able to achieve the following among others:
Procurement Of School Bus.
Successful Accreditation of its academic programs
Successful Upgrade of The School
Upsurge In Student Enrolment
Establishment of Yoruba Heritage Training School
All these were accomplished with the assiduous efforts of the school management body ably lead by Alhaja Omolara Adekunle (President), Mrs. Olubunmi Otuyelu (Principal), Dr. Olalekan Oyefuga (School coordinator), Mr. Micheal Adedeji (Treasurer), Mrs. Titilayo Akintade and Mrs. Temi Adedeji.
